Friday Florida Food Fest: Cooking Gumbo

Well, it's come to this ... Gumbo's (the free puppy) Vet bills got to the point where we said, enough is enough ...

So, we ate him.

Oh calm down, of course we didn't eat him.

In fact, he just got home from getting his booster shots at the Vet and they were absolutely thrilled with his progress.

Here's the pupdate:
White blood cell count is back to normal.
The tests for all tick born diseases came back negative.
No fevers, no malaise for weeks now.

He does still have some joint pain in his rear legs, but it seems to be lessening each day. It's mostly when he gets up after resting for a while.
The Vets are looking at two disorders that are in the "growing pains" category. One, panosteoitis causes painful bones in dogsThe other disorder (forgot the name) is similar but affects joints rather than long bones.
Both are self limiting as they usually grow out of it in the first year. Treatment involves pain management medicines like Rimadyl.

The fantastic news besides just his general glowing appearance is that he gained 7 pounds and now weighs 26 pounds. This was truly sweet as he had lost weight at his last visit.

Bear also gained 7 more pounds and is now a strapping 35 pounds.
Each of them has begun to lose their baby teeth also.

Since you were all emotionally involved in Gumbo, I thought I should share this with you and I couldn't wait until tomorrow, hence the second post in one day.

Oh yeah, and the receptionist said, "The Vet said not to charge you for an office visit today, since you've spent $1000 on this pup already."
Sweet!

I really did cook gumbo though.

What did Mr.s FC think of you putting a dog in her cook pot? Is there going to be a Cracker with that gumbo?

Glad to hear that Gumbo is doing well and the gumbo is stewing well. :)

The gumbo looks delicious and the Gumbo looks like a healthy water dog to me.
Strange things turn up in my cookpots some days here in South Dakota, too.

I do understand that Southern food is quite exotic, tasty and every bit qualifies as comfort food but I've never heard of Canine Canapes, Pup Popovers, Lab L'Orange, or even Rack of Retreiver. I am wondering if the base of your gumbo is from the face of Gumbo. Aw heck, gimme a bowl!

Glad to hear the pupper is doing so well. Everything thrives at PFHC, yes?

That's great news about Gumbo, and it was nice of the vet to give your wallet a break.

The gumbo looks good too.

Both Gumbos look fantastic! Great news about the pups, growing up and putting on weight. How are Feather and Flounder doing with their new fellow canines?

For a second I thought you were coming over to my side of the menu! ;-)

To all, Gumbo is doing very well thanks to modern meds and your good wishes.
Bear is tres magnifique!
Flounder and Feather have established their superiority and thus tolerate and even play with the pups a bit.

and Pablo, that's MY pot!
