Odd Bits Of This And That

Upper Left: It's not unusual to see deer around PFHQ, but to find one lying down and cozy only a few feet (about 20) from the back porch is pretty rare. Bear saw her first from the top of the porch steps and I just put my hand on him as he trembled, all ears up and alert. A brief distraction with a dog biscuit allowed her to finally get up and gallop off sans chien.

Lower Left: The pond this week. The water has crept up to about knee deep across the bottom and is remaining pretty stable. High hopes abound for some further filling.

Upper Right: Every decade or so, the local electric Co-Op clears the right of way around their powerline into PFHQ. This has to be done of course, but it is a shocking scar that will gradually soften.

Lower Right: Junior posing in his football regalia. We get to watch him play in St. Augustine (my home town) this season when our team goes up against the St. Joseph's Academy Flashes. That should be fun since I hope to take his Grandparents to watch him play.

Hi, FC. I've been wondering... do gators ever take up residence in your seasonal pond?

I'm glad to see you've finally got some water in that pond. Now you can call it a pond with a straight face LOL
That deer is gorgeous! I would love to have your property and if you ever decide to sell - call me first!
Jr looks like he's ready to play. Hope he does well this season.

You've got a beautiful family Poppa!

I'm so surprised that deer is so comfortable near your house. I thought they could smell if dogs are around and don't linger.

Howdy FC, Lovely photos. My husband and I are also native Floridians (he is also of Minorcan descent via the PONCE family of St. Augustine). We now reside in the SE Gawga countryside. Enjoyed the blog. Keep posting photos of Florida. Brings back happy memories. ♥ ∞

Good luck with the FB games. Sounds like a pretty nice way to spend some afternoons! I notice the 'Lectric Paths here, too. Mostly it's through tree tops, leaving them look a little odd, yet still standing. Have a great day.

The pond looks good, the clearing does not. Jr. has changed so much in the time you've been writing here. He looks so, um, okay, hot is inappropriate. Leave it at handsome and full of life. The picture of your mother and Katie has me smiling for four minutes now...

Is learning to not run after things part of the training that Bear got?? I would think he'd be after that deer in a heartbeat.

Susan,
Well ... it could happen I suppose ... ahem .. check out this post for something that might have happened ...http://pureflorida.blogspot.com/2005/08/red-eyes-at-night-gators-gonna-bite.html

SCMomma,
I can't imagine living anywhere else now, so don't hold your breath on that sale date!

Just Right,
The deer are so used to the old dogs on the porch that sometimes they forget that there's a new sheriff in town. Bear definitely gives chase.
Thank you for the kind words about the beautifinicity of the clan females.

3C,
Well thanks. I always enjoy the scenery at NVD too!

Sparky,
Welcome to Pure Florida!!
Hey, I went to high school with Eddie Ponce (76). Do you know him?

Freste,
They do a lot of U-shaped canopy cuts along the road around here that give trees a swayback look. This was the line coming in off the road.

Vicki,
Nah, you were right the first time, he's hot. The girls here at school all tell me so.
One tells me everyday, "Your son still has not proposed to me, please talk to him."
That Katie and her Grandma shot affects me the same way.

Dani,
When I take him out for predawn bathroom walks, I use a leash now because he can see the deer in the dark and I can only hear them. Last thing I want to be doing is chasing him in the predawn dark barefoot and in my shorts.
So we leash.
I don't know why, but this time he just sat down, staring and trembling, as if ready to give chase.

The current header pic makes me dizzy. But it's pretty cool you change it from time-to-time.

Hi again. Thanks for the "red eyes at night" story. I don't blame you for wanting the gator gone asap.

Rick,
I'll post it here soon. I just got the schedule and haven't memorized the dates yet.

Patti,
Thanks. Sorry for the pain, but glad it was from laughing!
:)

Troll,
I'm about due again aren't I?

Susan,
Me? You mean Smiley right?

Looks like the pond is making a come back! Nice picture of JR too! When we lived in Lima, Ohio the deer would walk right through our back yard even while we were BBQing with friends! You know a generator could......awh never mind! ;-)

Hey Dave! I'm hoping the pond keeps on coming back.
