Burrow Remodeling

My size elevens are just for reference. Weeks ago at the time of the great Bear vs. the armadillo gang post, this was a small gopher (that's Gopherus polyphemus) burrow. Since that time, something has remodeled it and turned a tiny bungalow into a spreading mcmansionburrow.

There is a slide track which indicates the resident gopher is still using it, but the burrow itself has been majorly enlarged.

I leaned down into it to get the interior view below.

I'm thinking (hoping) that maybe a fox has moved in.
Obviously, this is a place I should stake out ... I always enjoyed winter stakeouts at the top of Newfound Gap in my NPS days.
It'll be like old times ... only without the car clouting crooks.

(Yes, it would be a good job for the game camera, but seriously ... except for Rurality's shots, aren't game camera photos kinda dry?)

I'll keep you posted.

...posted ... heehee.

That's a huge burrow! How big is the gopher? It'll be interesting to see what comes out of there.

If you take a wide shot of the surroundings and tell us the size of the hole, it'll be easier to assess the probability that a fox has moved in.

I'm thinking LOW, right now.

Heh...we'll be watchin' to see waht ya find...meanwhile, I may have to borry yore bear--readin' backwards, he is a funny dawg.

Fer swamp cabbage miles from tofu:

2 pounds fresh tender hearts of palm, trimmed and sliced lengthwise. One 1/2 pound lean bacon, 1/2 tsp salt, 1/2 teaspoon fresh black pepper. In a large covered cast iron skillet, set at medium heat(even better over a fire), saute the bacon (without lid) until medium crisp and remove bacon to paper towel to drain, but reserve the bacon drippin's.

Into the drippin's lay the sliced hearts of palm, sprinkle wif' salt and pepper put on the lid and turn the heat to low. Cook 15 minutes, stirrin' gently once. Crumble bacon an' add to the pot, cover for 2 minutes till bacon is hot. Taste fer salt. Serve hot wif fried lake pearch or bass--but I think it is best wif' SNOOK! YUM!

Neighbor lady adds two-four fresh diced tomatoes in the last 5 minutes of hers and I likes it, but Uncle say thas' a travesty.

SCMomma,
And today I found a second enlarged burrow! Something is afoot.

Troll,
LOW?

Dani,
That's the way I lean too.

Bee,
Rurality is dormant right now, but she keeps a mighty sweeeeet blog.

Aunty,
Now, anything cooked in bacon grease is gonna taste good... even tofu.
:)
Just kidding. I appreciate that recipe and agree with Uncle.

No need to stick that note on your dashboard! I sent an email......patti

Quite low if this is a place near your house where your dogs roam constantly. Plus it's the wrong time of year.

It's always a pleasure when someone is EXCITED that a critter is burrowing nearby. Not that I would ever expect otherwise from you.

Ha! "Posted." I get it! You'll keep us POSTED! Like when you write a POST! You are hilarious!

Absolutly love your kitchen and would love to know what kind of soapstone you used. I have been searching for the right one forever and the one you chose is really nice.
