Will Work For White Chicken Chili

This is a spoonfull of the amazing white chicken chili Mrs. FC made while I was slaving away on the fireplace masonry. The smell was killin' me while I worked in the living room on Sunday. It permeated even my cement dust clogged nares.

I used to be a real red chili snob regarding "white" chili, but Ruby Tuesday's changed my mind a while back when I sampled some of Junior's.
This was a recipe from one of the many Southern Living annual cookbooks we have. I didn't make it (now that IS weird) so I don't know which book.
I do know she substituted boneless, skinless, thigh meat instead of the chicken breast it called for.
Good tasty swap in my opinion.

Here's the back side of the manufactured stone we are using on the fireplace. This is my first masonry work (besides pouring simple slabs), so I was a little stressed at first, but it's going okay now.
I do have even more respect for masons though. In high school, I dated a beautiful Minorcan girl whose Daddy, (Buddy Masters) was a mason and I had plenty of respect for his massive biceps, but I didn't know enough about masonry to really appreciate the skills he posessed.

This job has expanded my vocabulary. A few months ago, I didn't know what "tuck pointing" was.
Now, I do ... believe me ... I do.

Here's the deer, two weeks later. This is the only nature shot I took this beautiful weekend due to my endentured servitude.

Just be glad that Buddy Masters didn't go and tuck point you back then.

The chili looks good.. the doe, not so much.

LMAO Yeah, what Joey said.

Hey, if I send you a bucket, will you send me chilli?

Your chicken chili looks just like mine! After all that hard work, you earned a bowl!

Where are the "during onstruction" photos? We wanna seeeeeee!

The chicken chili does look good. I have a recie, I'll have to give it a try.

The deer looks to be at the stage of decay where some of the more interesting carrion beetles start showing up. Any sign of them? You're definitely beyond the writhing maggot mass stage here. Gross- but in many ways the most interesting stage of the process.

(Heh- my word verification is dedder. As in what the deer is right now.)

Looks delicious!
And I know what you mean when it comes to the masonry work...Two of my first cousins are in it, and I almost got a job in it this past summer [ALMOST is the key word there...I wised up and decided not to DIE]
Exactly how close was that deer to your casa, anyway?

Yesterday was a great day for chili, but ours was standard red...very good, but not quite as interesting as yours looks...

Mantle seems to be coming along nicely

I don't know what tuck pointing is, either, but it sounds like you're becoming a pro at it. :)

Speaking of Chili, I made red chili for 50 - 60 folks this past weekend at Brittany's outdoor birthday party extravaganza. I think I'll look up the recipe for the one Mrs. FC made, as it looks so good! I have a bunch of their cookbooks laying around, going back to theh 80's.

the chili looks good! so does the rock-work. the deer -- not so much.

i thought masonry was more load-bearing? your fireplace masterpiece seems closer to tile work, but with less glossy and more irregular materials. not to diss that work in the least, because that seems harder to me, artistically and in terms of making the darned thing stay where it should.

Oh I lub me some white chili. I think the person whose recipe I asked for gave me a fake one though... it didn't taste nearly as good as when she made it!

I've never had white chili. On your recommendation I am off to find a recipe.

That chili definitely looks good enough to work for! I'm going to have to try that - want to post the recipe?

The fireplace seems to be coming along. I can't wait to see the finished product.

Joey,
Now that I have raised two daughters, I can imagine that he did consider tuck pointing me a time or two!

Freste,
Ack! Too late pal, I finished if for supper tonight.

Justright,
Holding out til it's done for final pics!

Doug,
Try it you'll like it!
I am resisting the urge to poke around in that deer.

HT,
LOL! That deer is about 80 feet from my front door.
Hardcore recylers here.

Bee,
Chili is good in any color.

Laura,
Lordy, that's a lot of chili. Was it good?
I'll post this recipe when she points it out to me.

Kathy A,
It's really different from any tiling I've done, but it is not load bearing.
Feels like masonry to me.

Rurality,
Ahhhh, the old leave out a crucial ingredient when you give out a recipe so theirs never tastes as good as yours trick.

Miz S,
I hope you find this one as it was spectacular.

SCM,
I'll try to post this one soon. I'm feeling good about the fireplace as it all comes together.
