Last night at sundown, I went out to the garden and picked snow peas, lettuce, and collard greens in advance of some freezing temperatures that are forecast for tonight. The collards might have been fine through the cold night, but the lettuce would probably be mush, so I picked both.
We are looking at possible low 20's / high teen temps!
The lettuce went in the fridge, but the greens went into a wok with a splash of olive oil, salt, pepper, and a splitz of Tony C's cajun spice.
These collard leaves were young with small stalks, so I just tossed them in whole and wokked their world.
The greens were scrumptiously fresh with a wonderful blend of tender leaves and mildly crunchy stems.
They were a great accompaniment to my homemade chicken noodle soup, because I don't put ANY vegetables in it.
Chicken.
Noodles.
Salt.
Pepper.
Thyme
Bay leaf ... not really a vegetable now, is it?
Splash of wine.
Simple fare.
Here's a gratuitous glimpse of Bear.
He is not food, just cute.

Your dinner sounds like it wokked!
Awww, Bear is such a handsome guy!
Hope it doesn't get too cold for you. Meanwhile, I think I am going to try your soup recipe tonight. We are fairly (mildly) cool here in S.Fla, so soup sounds good!

I'm looking at possible low 20's/ high teen temps tomorrow. High temps, that is.
When it gets that cold down there, do you put on shirts that have actual sleeves?
Those greens look tasty! Collards and good soup on a cold night - just what the doctor ordered LOL
It's supposed to go down into the teens here tonight and there are more articles in the paper about it and preparations being made than when a hurricane is coming LOL
We had temps in the high teens and low 20s last night. Oh wait, you mean above zero.
The greens look great!
Seems like we're all getting a dose of cold this week. I had to cover my seedlings and bring in the tree frogs(I know they're fine outside, but it keeps me from fretting).
You're getting leafy green vegetables from your garden already? Sigh.
Leafy greens is one of the big perks in Florida during the winter. This cold snap is a bit much, though. You should submit that recipe to Real Simple magazine.
Bear. With chomping, slurping, slopping, dirt-licking sounds. Sweet.
"Wokked their world".
Oh, man. Those collards look good. I might have to stop at the store and see if I can pick some up for tonight.
I hope Porki is feeling better.
How is the pig doing? And thanks for the soup recipe!

SCM,
Serious protein and green veggie vitamins in that combo!
Doug,
We don't do that subzero thing here!
Dani,
Do you realize how sweet that sounds to hear you fretting over tree frogs? You have a big heart.
Robin,
It's the only time to grow them here. The heat makes lettuc bitter and bolty later in the spring!
Vicki,
I had to pan to Feather who was making most of that racket ... I didn't want y'all to think it was me!
Troll,

Miz S,
Porki is good! Sorry you have to buy collards!
