It turned out there were creatures living in the tree I felled last weekend. As the tree hit the ground, they began to descend from the canopy.
I held my chainsaw at the ready... just in case.
Disturbed by the disruption in their habitat, they at first turned upon each other.
Then, an uneasy truce prevailed and a new, sleeker, possibly more intelligent tree beast appeared. It was at that point that they seemed to notice me.
We stared into each other's eyes ... each daring the other to flinch.
After a brief staredown, the lead tree beast turned and returned to the canopy of the newly fallen tree. The others soon followed.
I holstered my chainsaw and breathed a sign of relief.

Is school out for you? If so, I can tell it's going to be a long wacky summer for us faothful readers! Take care of Thunder next week, okay?

Goof.
Oh! My word verification below is 'ablog'. That must be sort of like Charlotte saying "Some Pig." This is clearly
'ablog'!
LOL, my word is cohydr... three of which were in your tree. I just love a creative mind. Even more a body who isn't all work. You prob'ly coulda given the author of The Dangerous Book for Boys a few tips.
Is it fallish down there? The past few days, temps dropped about 30°... nigh perfection!
I am glad the tree beasts decided not to attack. The chain saw probably did the trick and kept them at bay!

tree beasts -- can't live with 'em, can't live without 'em.
Glad the black one was on top of things. :) They do seem to know more than your average human.
That looks more pernicious than a termite nest ...
oh, fearsome tree beasts indeed.
Those tree beasts sure grow up quick!
Things are never boring at your place..
Lightnin,

Vicki,
Goofs r us.
Sophie,
The weather was Octobery for a few days, now deliciously wet.
Lisa,
Well, I figured a chainsaw worked in "The Evil Dead" so it would work for me too.
Jonathon,
See, all that prewhining was not needed.
Kathy A,
Words of wisdom. So true.
Deb,
We could learn alot from them!
Robert,
They are and a lot harder to squish.
Ericka,
I was glad they retreated.
Dani,
Waaaaaaaay tooo quick!
Kitty,
Not usually, but we have our moments.
When we drop a tree...we leave it as wildlife habitat and let nature take care of it.

Carol,
A great plan. When they fall in my forest, I do the same. This one is in the daily activity zone of my house so it gets processed.
All the smaller unuseable branches which are often tree sized, get piled into wildlife brush piles in my 10 acres of woods.
