Halloween Scene

A few scenes from last night at my parent's house ...

Poor Mark. If he had taken my Marine Science course, he' have known sharks feed after dark.

I made his tombstone (and Fred's) years ago from 2 inch styrofoam insulation sheeting.

Fred is so forgetful.
I can relate.

There were things about in the dark ...

The double monkey drop ... a 30+ year old tradition.
It's fun to listen to approaching groups of trickortreaters. Many of them were scared here by this pair of monkeys as kids and now they are bringing their kids ... and grandkids for the same scare.
In the dark, they see the dropping monkey pair as a big spider, even though it's two stuffed monkeys attached at the head like some kind of conjoined ape-thing.

Here are the two rascals that operate the tricks and handout the treats. Dad drops the monkey thing for the first scare and then activates an electric leaf blower behind that monster ghost thing to the far left.
The poor kids think they are almost to the candy and are past the scares and have relaxed after the monkey drop.
THAT is when Dad pushes the leaf blower button ...
The white sheet billowing out combined with the noise of the blower sometimes sends them running for cover... parents too.

Great fun! Halloween is a delightful holiday and the thrill of being scared in fun is good, year after year. I love that your parents have been doing this forever (with your help!)-it brings back memories of my favorite childhood night of the year. Back then my father would make over 200 popcorn balls and 200 cinnamon red candied apples. Our house was always a big hit. And we made our costumes from scratch, planned weeks in advance.

As you saw on my post, Halloween is very big here in St. Petersburg, too and it was wonderful to be out enjoying it like a kid. Minus the candy. I refrained from begging, but hid a stash at home.

I love going to this kind of house on Halloween. It's better than candy! (well, not all candy. if they had chocolate I wouldn't have said no.)

How funny! I loved houses like that when i was a kid. Last night the kids were trick or treating at the grocery store. how sad.

nice! the scariest place on our route as kids was the buffalo farm. they covered the porch with buffalo (sigh. bison.) skulls, and had some of them rigged with motion triggered lights, sounds and motion. if you managed to make it to the door, they gave out full size candy bars.

this year, i flipped the light and waited and waited and waited and around 10 pm, i finally figured out that i'd turned on my entry light - inside - and not my porch light. duh! more candy for me, i guess.

That looks like such a good time! Halloween is a big event here as well. You and your folks would be very popular, I think. :)

I wonder how many people wet their pants on the approach to your parents' front door.
