Moving Speed Bumps and Alligator Poo

Sunday, I drove into town to feed my shrimp, but took the long way through Devil's Hammock. I had not been in to the wildlife management area for a while so I was in for a surprise.

It seems the county installed speed bumps along the graded road that snakes through the Hammock.

The one above is a smaller speedbump, but they had some big ones too.

Waaaaay up ahead in the distance is another speed bump.

I like these moving speed bumps.
Instead of providing the driver with a bone jarring BUMP, these new fangled ones get up and get out of your way.
Very clever.
This one seems to be making it's own little speed bump ... sort of a "Speed Bump Dump" .

The video is a little shaky ... it's a REAL JEEP I drive folks, and the ride is not for the faint of heart.
Y'all take care not to flatten any moveable speed bumps where you live.

Fun!!! Love the bumps! Now that I live in town, I don't get to see them nearly as often.

In other words, you and the JEEP scared the...oh, never mind. Once, on the island of Isla Mujeres in the Yucatan, Abby and I ran the golf cart we used to get around the island over what we thought was a large speed bump that ran all the way across the road. It was a boa constrictor. It was night time and we had had a few cerveza...

Sayre,
I saw one on Hwy 27 that did not make it across unfortunately.

Kathy A,
Well, ... you have ENUFF odd things out there in CA.

Mel,
You didn't do it again recently did you? LOL!
L said she saw one daid there last week.

Ericka,
We have those too. One less as of last Saturday. Squirrels are so indecisive sometimes.

Swampy,
Shit! I forgot. LOL!

Cindy,
If you were, we could have induced some serious labor ... that's a bumpy ride!

Marge,
LOL! Thanks. Sheer Pooetry.
I'll stop now.

Vicki,
Tipsy golf cart drivers ... the secret fear of every boa.
I actually did not notice the gator poo at the moment I was there. It was after I reviewed the photos.

Gator poo! Now there's a moment I know I'll never see in my lifetime. Thanks for the view. I truly love it.

This time of year our speed bumps range from big furry (woodchuck shaped) ones to little hard shelled (Boxed) ones. I don't think the jeep would be bothered by either one, but you definitely want to avoid them on the H-D!
Oh and you also need to watch out for the big brown walking fences that come out of the woods in the mornings and evenings! ;-)

Ha! Reminds me of the dirt road to my husband's old lakehouse. How many times we stopped back in the day to wait on a gator crossing! Your video was quite a sight!

I have never seen a gator take a dump. Perhaps I don't scare them on a motorcycle.

Awsome gator poo photo! I do a class visit at Everglades City School each year and will show them this photo. Interesting to see where it comes out. How come he chose the middle of the road instead of the more protected area of grass or water? They will love it!

Robin,
It's my first gator poo moment too.

Dave,
Those big brown walking fences are eating my flowers.

Floridagirl,
I remember down in Big Cypress, they were so big, they lay across the whole road!

Conchscooter,
Welcome to Pure Florida! This was a first for me too.

Anon,
Thanks! I think he was just basking on the sunny road and suddenly answered the call of the wild.

No gators here in New England, but we sure like seeing them on your website. My mom used to live in SC and the gators used to swim around in the pond in front of her house. A little intimidating for someone from the north.

Enjoyed your site, and will return, there is so much to learn about your neck of the woods.
