Aerial Refueling In A Combat Zone

Note: This post was extracted from HBDODM-1, "Hummer Refueling During Combat".
 Translated by FC.

(Yes, I speak Squeak.)

Upon approach to fueling station, monitor the immediate area for potential threats.
"Keep your beak on a swivel."
If the area is secure, pilots may choose the perch method of refueling.
Perform a quick security sweep.
If the area is clear, proceed with refueling.

Commence refueling.
Depart immediately upon completion of fueling.

A short HBDOD training film follows.

FC would like to thank the Humming Bird Department Of Defense for allowing the use of this material,
or as we say in Squeak ...

I have the same behavior here in Tennessee contrasted with the more orderly nature of Hummers in Wisconsin where they line up like planes approaching Ohare, waiting their turn.

CrackerN,
Well, the midwest is known for their salt of the earth civility, while we in the south tend to be a bit more rebellious.

It's total combat out in California too. We have three feeders. One of them is protected and defended by a lunatic hummer that won't let anybody else feed there. He guards it all day long.

Cute post. The hummers here in SW IN battle if they happen by at the same time.

Robin,
Wow, I thought California hummers would be totally mellow.

ShellLady,
Thanks!
I got it at Lowes and it has made a world of difference.

Cindy,
You'd think you were busy taking care of a cute baby or something silly like that.

Lisa,
I think it is hilarious to watch them. I know it's serious stuff to them, but it cracks me up to watch these tiny bits of bird scrap with each other.

Lesle,
Thanks!
It's winding down out in the BB patch now, but I may try that next year.
Or I could actually buy berries.

Great video, as usual. I love the hummingbird bill. What a marvelous adaptation.
