Three Birds

Back at the lake of Sandhill Cranes ...

Willet?
Awaiting your expert opinions.
Do you see the exotic species in this photo?
Sorry about the grass in the foreground, but I was creeping through crunchy lakeside marsh grasses and this is as close as I could get.

Flycatcher?
Awaiting your expert opinions.
This looks like the little crested flycatcher who used to fly into the screenless open windows of my first bachelor pad, attic apartment on Maria Sanchez lake. He'd fly in, fly around for awhile, perch on a cabinet, then fly out.

Emma?
Yes, no need for your expert opinions here. I recognize this bird by it's distinctive winter plumage.

(The summer plumage of this bird is more colorful and not as dense)

Water hyacinth? Up here they sell them believe it or not

That does indeed look like water hyacinth. Its completely ruined a couple of birding spots for me down here.

Not sure about Willet - I've only seen one down here and it helpfully showed me the wing bars as a dead give away.

Nice shots. The animals in your photos are all vertebrates. Can't help you there.

Scolopacidae

The top photo could be a Willet. I just learned the other day that they have beautiful black and white wings in flight. I never see flycatchers, so no help there. I am only sure about Emma.

I'm almost positive that that is a Willet, but I would have to see that the legs are gray. I think the other picture is of an an Eastern Phoebe, but I'm not an expert. They look quite similar to Eastern Wood-Pewees.

3C,
Here mere possession is illegal.

Tai,
I've photo'd a lot of willet but with no legs showing and fluffed up against the cold, I hesitated on this one ...

Doug,
Chordata it is. That's a good starting point.
:)

Troll,
Yeah, but which ...

Robin,
They like to stand atop fence posts also. Good job on the Em ID.

First Anon,
Phoebe ... yes, that it could be.

Lightnin,
No, that would be Junior.
Hooray for Dude's return!

I agree with the willet/phoebe theory. Very nice pictures. Good job IDing that third bird, seeing as how some of her best features are hidden by the leaves. 8-]

We saw a nest last year above the water made of dead vegitation the large bird tending the nest looked like a sandhill. Would that be right?

Sophie,
That clinches it then!
Thanks!
Yes, that sweet face is hidden by the leaves, but I got to see it today in a surprise visit home from college!

Sharon,
Thanks!

Rick,
I guess so, but I don't know off the top of my head if they nest here or not. Need to check.

Linda,
Thank you for the kind words and welcome to Pure Florida!
