Puzzler Answer Update

Here's the answer to this morning's puzzler.
Just a bit of limestone with an imprint of a bivalve that lived a very, very, long time ago.
Thanks for playing along!

Well, heck. It's sorta geode-ish. In a way. Kinda like. Seems to me......

i don't like that answer. sure, it's correct and explains the context. but how come we are seeing crystals and minerals?

you want to quiz us, buddy, and you'd better have full answers. ;)

I considered the idea that the mystery photo had something to do with the batch of limestone you'd reported in recent posts. To someone in the Midwest it's hard to understand how significant a bunch of rocks can be to a Floridian, so I guess I didn't give my hunch the full consideration it deserved. I'm impressed with the super-duper macro function your camera has.

Actually that looks similar to some of the fossils you might find in the limestone that's waaaaay under Chicago. Cool!

Ol Lurker,
Very. Plus I threw in a distractor in the GEOlly title.
Geode is the best not correct answer on this one.

Kathy A,
Limestone is mostly Calcium Carbonate. It can be any texture from soft chalky stuff to denser cherty stuff.
I'm no geologist, but I'd bet money that all the pretty sparklies are Calcite crystals.

Pablo,
I'm bragging on Sony's product here and not my photo abilities, but I read a lot of photo blogs and I don't see any better quality in the digital SLR photos. When I add in the cost of multiple lenses and the missed photos when the right lens is in the bag and not on the camera ... I just can't imagine ever buying an SLR type camera again. That's coming from a guy whose been a diehard SLR man since 1974.

Sony got it right with this one...and my Sony is now a couple generations old.
New model is even better.

Doug,
One world ocean.
It is neat to see those similarities across great distance.

Golly, that is pretty!

I just love coincidences - synchronous oddities. I just posted a poem on limestone to a poetry website. Cool.

Aw man, I missed a puzzler! :) Your camera does take mighty fine pics, but I have an answer to your multiple-lens problem: Tamron 18-250mm lens. I got it for Christmas. With the exception of when one day I get a 50mm prime and a good macro, it's all the lens I'll ever need :P

Cathy,
That is cool ... Sara N. Dippity.

Sharon,
You do take some mighty fine pics too, but my all in one with macro and 12X optical makes those other two lenses just more stuff to carry.

You make an excellent point :)

Sharon,
In the end, it's personal likes and dislikes. I never, ever thought I would be this happy with a nonSLR.
I think shutter lag in the SLR's is much better so that is an advantage.
