Sticking It Out

See that stump?
Not the stick, the stump.
Yes, that one.
Friday of last week, there was a beautiful egret perched on that stump as I drove past in the JEEP.
I stopped, and backed slowly up to the window in the willows through which I had spotted him.
He flew away.

Yes, that one.
A few days later, I was creeping past in the JEEP and a kingfisher was perched on that stick.
I was ready for him and stopped the JEEP in line with the willowy window.
He flew away.

Lucky for me, gators do not fly.

Those Kingfishers are quick little suckers! I've been trying for years to get a decent picture of one.

Robin,
It would sure make birding more exciting.

Cindy,
I think so too!

Lisa,
Well, if they could, I'd have had no pics today!

SO HOW MANY PEOPLE NOTICED THAT GATOR BEFORE I CROPPED THE FIRST PIC?

I must confess, I did NOT see the gator in the first pic. Not even when I enbigged it.

Kingfishers (and grebes) are notoriously camera-shy. I was so thrilled a while back when one actually sat still for a minute or three. He was too far for a really great shot but I take what I can get.

In case I don't make it back before Thursday...
HAPPY DAY, TURKEY!!!

Er... that is to say...
HAPPY TURKEY DAY!!!

Happy Turkey day to you too Sophie!

This sort of problem often happens to me with dragonflies- I snap and it's just a photo of a stick. Nope, I didn't see the gator in the first picture.

I didn't see the gator either. How far were you from it?

Patti

PS Happy Thanksgiving to you and your fine family!

Therein is the conundrum...when is a stump not a stump, but one that may leave you nothing but a stump??
:o)

Well, if they could fly they would probably be called dragons! ;-)

Happy Thanksgiving to everyone there at PFHQ from Thunder and Lightnin!

Doug,
Yeah, I get lots of sticks etc.

Patti,
Thanks! Happy Tday to you too! Not too far, maybe twenty feet.

Caroline,
Down here some of our stumps can eat you!
Happy TDay!

Dave,
Have a good one pal. Cold and grey here, feels like Ohio.

By the way...I've been meaning to ask for a REALLY long time...what kind of gas mileage does your Jeep get?

R.Powers said...

Kimberlee,
LOL! Yes I lucked out in that one!
As for mileage... Real JEEPs are geared low for the job they are designed to do, so the mileage suffers from that, considering how small a vehicle they are.
I have a 4 cyl, which they do not make anymore. The new ones are 6's. My highway mileage is 20ish.
I just looked at a new one yesterday, while awaiting an oil change and it was 19 highway mpg.
The go anywhere though!!
