BEAR'S SURPRISE

Bear the Labrador secretly brings something home from our walk.

Bears, Horses, and Diamondbacks

Bear and I went on a rare solo walk, sans Coquina yesterday. 

It's not that Keena wasn't welcome, she just happened to be napping after several days of having too much fun with Katy and Robert's dog, Doug.

It was supposed to be just an in and out short walk as I had deck work to do, but Bear put on his stubborn hat and headed towards the southwest corner of PFHQ.

So I followed.

When I caught up with Bear, I found he had led me to some kind of Equine United Nations summit.

There was a paint, a pony, a magnificent tall brown horse, and hidden behind that horse, a donkey.
When the horses, et al, saw Bear, they all came trotting over to the fence.

There were introductions.

The paint, a favorite horse flavor of mine was the most cautious, but it (he/she?) finally walked over to the fence for a closer look at the two strangers.

The huge brown horse was the ham of the bunch, leaning way over the corner fence post for some nose rubbage.

He even did a quick photo bomb when I tried to get a photo of the donkey.
What an Ass!

I was able to get this shot of the donkey when Bear distracted The Browninator with a little excited dog muttering.
Bearsy was pretty good for a dog who hasn't had much horse contact at all.
No barking, just some Lab talk.

After a little while, Bear's interest turned elsewhere and we headed along the fence and back to the house.

As we passed the diamond back terrapin sunning tank, Bear stopped and did a quick count.

Yup, two diamondbacks.
All is well.

Beach Pups, Great Whites Who Tweet, and Poop In Your Tilley Hat

Bear sniffs for signs of Mary Lee, the  16.5 foot, 3600 pound, GPS tracking,  transponder wearing,   great white shark that was about 200 feet off a nearby beach a few weeks ago.
Mary Lee has a transponder on her dorsal fin and every time she breaks the surface with that terrifying triangle, her beacon "tweets" her location via satellite to the folks who wrangled her and attached it.

Bear is always on the lookout for such things ... squirrels, UPS trucks, and great white sharks are high on his watch list.

The pups, Coquina and Peanut, waited impatiently for the "all clear" from big Bear.

While they waited, Coquina pondered the awesomeness of a shark both longer and heavier than the red JEEP that brought her to the beach.
Peanut chose to put his leash through a chew test.

When Bear gave the "OK" woof, the pups raced for the surf in true Moon Doggie mode.

Afterwards, at Peanut's request, Coquina did a quick sniff test to determine if his deodorant was still working.

It was.

Of course, since dogs don't sweat like us, it wasn't a valid test, but we didn't have the heart to tell the pups.

Beside it was a cold winter day ... who needs deodorant on a day like that?

The water was cold, the air was crisp, and after a good romp,  3 wet dogs were eager to get back in the JEEP for the 2.5 hour ride across the state.

Yes, that would be me, Emma, Coquina, Peanut, and 100 pound Bear ... all in a JEEP Wrangler.

And this is a REAL JEEP Wrangler ... not one of these new stretched and cushified new "jeeps".

No sir, mine is short and cramped like a JEEP should be.

And did I mention that Coquina had some ... digestive issues about halfway through that ride ...

OR

... that my expensive Tilley Hat must have resembled a toilet to her?

And I was worried they might "chew" on it during the ride.

Silly me.

Paws and Effect ... a Bear Post

Gosh, I haven't put sweet little Beardog on Pure Florida for too long.
Some of you may even be suffering from "Abearobic Withdrawals" !
Not, to worry.

Bear Gives Us The Run Around

On Dad's birthday, a garage sale was happening next door at the neighbor's house. The ladies went over the fence to go shopping and came back with a stuffed animal for Bear.

The video is a snippet of what happened next. I am in catch-up mode after a busy weekend at the seafood festival, so Bear is doing the heavy lifting here today.

The "Atta boy, Tiger" and "Show him how to run" commentary from off camera is my Dad enjoying the show.
