Every Saturday Night

Every Saturday night, I make my best girl a Chinese dinner. It is our long standing tradition. Long ago, it resembled Kung Pao, but has morphed into a more vegetabley varied dish, although it still has the cayenne heat and the peanuts.

I'm going to make it for her tonight too, even though she's making me help with a garage sale on a beautiful day with crisp 39 degree temps and a sparkling blue sky ... even though the annual Florida Cracker Cattle Auction down at Brooksville is today and won't happen for another year.

( ...as if I could afford any cattle after a new fridge)

Here's hoping you are not at a garage sale today ...

... unless you are at ours buying our junk. Posted by Picasa

So how many visitors can you expect for your garage sale way out there in the country? If I weren't painting my kitchen ceiling today, I might drop by and see if there is anything you have the I might need. Maybe a really long ladder or a cast net or something.

I was thinking maybe a stir fry type thing tonight myself. Maybe with fresh venison, if The Hermit and Stepson #2 have any luck. It's deer season in MN!

Now you just know you're gonna be hit up for the recipe! ;)

We're overdue to have a garage sale, and soon. I've been shoving things into the garage for one and it's getting overcrowded in there.

Good luck with the garage sale!

... unless you are at ours buying our junk. I think you meant to say "buying our treasures." I remember seeing a photo somewhere of a second hand store sign-- We buy junk and sell antiques.

I'm laughing at Robin's comment. After the great clean out garage sale in Ann Arbor this past August I'd rather not e on either end of a yard sale again, for as long as I live. But we did get rid of a lot of very fine junk. The worst? What to do with all that stuff that's still left at the end of the day.

Now that I think about it, you probably have a good garage sale. Do you sell piglets and lizards and frogs and bags of frozen shrimp?

Garage sales are sooo fun! And that dish looks sooo yummy!

Pablo,
Excellent question. Actually, we did a group sale about 18 miles away in the little town where I teach. It went well. Good luck with that ceiling.

Deb,
I hope they were successful. Here, archery season is over. Now it is blackpowder season. After that, it will be general gun season until mid January.

Laura,
Aha, but stir frying is so simple and forgiving that my recipe is heat some sesame oil, toss in what you like, stir it, eat it.

Janet,
Welcome to Pure Florida! Yes, I do and have just recently, but this one isn't much more complicated than my comment above. Thanks for commenting and I will cruise over to your site as soon as I can.

Robin,
Did I say "junk?" What was I thinking? Definitely treasures.
;)

Vicki,
Boy, you are right about that ... the leftovers are a dilemma. We gave ours to the local charitable thrift shop.
Speaking of piglets, this is the month we buy our show pig for the fair.

Momadness,
Oh yes, they are delight(not)ful.
It was good, but I didn't have skinless thighs and used breast meat instead...not quite as flavorful.

What would you do with cattle? Do you have a place to keep them? Or do you just buy the ownership and let someone else raise them?

Pablo,
Those cracker cattle are a rare breed, descendents of the first Spanish cattle lines here in FL. I fancy having a few as a living tie to FL's past. I don't know the first thing about cattle tho, so there would be quite a learning curve.

Sandy,
Well, I like it too, but thanks!

Kelvin,
Thanks! It was a perfect day for a sale, great weather and lots of other sales nearby.

Tim,
Thanks, it was pretty good.

Oh, rats! If I'd known your sale and the cattle auction were both happening yesterday, I'd've planned a field trip. Number one son would've gladly come along, as his favourite burger spot in this half of the state is the DQ in Cross City.

I enjoyed your fence lizard pics. They have so much personality. And your young moccasin was a beauty. I saved a Diamondback from being run over the other day. First one of those I've seen in quite a while. Click on the Blue Curl for pics. 8-]

I know that DQ. We hit it sometimes on the way home from Steinhatchee.
Great rattlesnake pics by the way!
