Where I Was

I was here yesterday ...

... and here too.

Here ?
Yup.

Here's proof that I was here.

Yesterday was the formal dedication of this brand new nature preserve on the banks of the 'Cotee river in the town of New Port Richey.

I used to fish with the man whose name is on that sign. One day, just he and I went out on the Gulf alone and although we didn't bring many fish home, it seemed that we caught one of everything that swam in the Gulf. Houndfish, snapper, trout, grass grouper, black sea bass, catfish ...
We tossed most of them back into the sea.

He commented to me years later that he had never caught such a mix of fish as on that day. That meant something to me as he had spent a lifetime fishing the Gulf.

I'm very thankful for that day as he is gone now.

I'm also thankful that I caught his daughter.

(... and that she has not tossed me back)

More later on what went on yesterday, but tempis fugit and I need to get to work.

I forgot to mention that I'm trying to post about our our current road trip, but Blogger isn't letting me upload photos.

Aaaahhhh, beautiful! I've been reading a lot of posts lately that are making me homesick. The north Flarda cold factor isn't helping.

Did y'all paddle 'home' from the preserve?

Looks like a beautiful area! And your father in law must have done something good to get a nature preserve named after him.

Wow again! What a beautiful place and legacy, and how honored you must be to be so closely related. :)

Got a kick out of the way you ended this post, LOL!

And what an honor for your wife and her family to have the preserve named after her father!

Isn't that special. Some guys have all the luck. :-p
I'll have to add this to my list of places to (re)visit. I'm now wondering how much more of the Ding Darling Wildlife Refuge has been hacked out for retiring Senators...

what a lovely post- this is really nice and I think it's time you wrote your novel. You have a wonderful mix of tales and memories that can be woven together.

Your reflection in the Preserve sign photo, whether intentional or not, is the perfect, right touch!

Lesle,
Thanks.
It was intentional, I can't help blogging in my head wherever I am :)
