What Me, Meme? NoNo Meme

Calm down you hippies ... it's my new red swamp mallow (Hibiscus coccineus). It bloomed this morning and the hummingbird was right there to check it out. (No, I did not have my camera on me ... weird, I know.)
Blossom pic to come ...

You long time readers know I usually pass on Meme's. They can be fun, but as a daily poster, I usually have a full agenda of THINGS ABOUT THE REAL FLORIDA THAT I MUST TELL YOU BEFORE I BURST!

So, normally, I do a polite decline. It's easier if it's a guy who tags you (don't hate me Thingfish23), but it's always hard to say no to the ladies.

Meme's about me are most difficult, because I think the wild things I write about on a daily basis are waaaaaaay more interesting than me.
(Readers who actually know me, ... Cindy, Glo, Lightnin, Thunder, Rick, Kevin, Billy, Woody, Thingfish, and Jan can vouch for this fact)

In the past week, I've been tagged twice. Once by longtime blogger pal Sophiemae who authors the beautiful Florida Cracker Crumbs blog and once by a new commenter, Just The Right Size, who is apparently a lovely, crackerjack gourmet cook and vintner. You like to eat good stuff? You should check out her blog. Her strawberry wine sounds amazing.

Sophie tagged me with the 123 meme, which says to ...

1. Pick up the nearest book.
2. Open to page 123
3. Find the 5th sentence
4. Post the next three sentences
5. Tag five people, and acknowledge who tagged you.

I will obey 1-4, but break rule 5.

There are no books that big in the chilipepper red upstairs bedroom where I write, so I went to the stairs, which the remodeling job has transformed into a bookshelf of sorts. I chose" Raptor Red" by Robert Bakker.
A long time rule breaker ... I didn't stick strictly to the sentence count.

"Raptor Red doesn't even look at the dactyl disappearing along the riverbank. She's absorbed with the thousands of bubbles, large and small, left by his sudden take off.
Exploration is mental play, and big-brained carnivores are the most playful in any ecosystem. Raptor Red was enjoying the sense of well-fed well being on the sand flat when she saw the dactyl doing something strange out on the river. She has no fear of this dactyl--and no desire to eat it either, so curiosity took over."

Now, the harder meme from Just The Right Size: 6 random things about me. As with Sophie's tag, I will break the rule about tagging others.

Hope you aren't too "board" with what follows about me ...

1. I played Barbies with the girl next door when I was a little guy. In my defense, I was Ken at all times and I did move on to GI JOE's.

2. I'm not much of a traditional sports (football, basketball, baseball) fan. I blame it on Marlene and her damn Barbies ... just kidding Marlene.

3. #2 goes by the wayside if my children are out there playing. THEN, I want to kick the other team's ass. (I said "ass" on Pure Florida ... I don't think I've ever done that before, but it illustrates the change in moi when my DNA is on the court or field.)

4. I love to cook. I find it creative and very satisfying both during the process and at the table. Mostly I cook rustic food with minimal, simple ingredients. I know it's trendy to serve a tiny molecule of meat with 6 slivers of green beans artfully arranged atop it ... I watch the cooking shows too ... BUT, you won't find that here. If I cook for you, your plate will be full, and so will you when you're done.

5. Too often I get enthused about something, do it for awhile, and then move on ... always meaning to come back. Eventually, I do. Remember the atlatl? Yup, still sitting on my workbench ... waiting.

6. I have a Florida-based (duh) novel bouncing around in my head. This summer, I've tried getting some of it out and onto the hard drive. It's a lot harder than I thought it would be.

Okay, I'm done.

Now, those T&G paneling boards in the picture above (only a fraction of the total) need their "between coat sanding" and a final coat of poly.

Just another exciting day for Mr. Wild Adventures ...

FC, barbies huh? I like a tough guy with a soft side! :-)

What's an atlatl????

Thanks for playing!

Thanks for not tagging, especially me. And I probably would have played Barbie with Marlene, too.

And you're right about the more interesting stuff. Hah! Just kidding.

Just,
It was a long time ago :)
An atlatl is a prehistoric spear throwing device. I started making one a while back and didn't finish it yet.

Kevin,
It was the only polite thing to do and she still razzes me about it.
LOL!

I love your new header picture. I feel like I am standing right there beside Gumbo Limbo (or is it Bear?)

What Cathy said.. re the header!
And thanks! I promise I won't do it again. I only did this time coz it wasn't a 'list X# things about yourself' kinda thing... even though I find those fascinating... from some people... like those who play with Barbies and like to cook and have a short attention span... 8-]

You succeeded in making me laugh out loud this time! Although I think you sell yourself a little short, you're far more interesting in person.

Well ok, interesting as in funny, strange, somewhat wierd, possibly touched in the head, .......! ;-)

I knew I liked you...now I know that it's because you remind me of my brother (only he won't admit to the Barbies)
I wrote a book once...oddly enough about upstate NY and based on a dairy farm. I was really proud of it at the time, but it seems so lame now...However, I loaned it to a friend once and her husband stayed up all night reading it from cover to cover because he was sure he was the murderer. I am sure when you finish yours it will be a masterpiece and all the folks here will want to buy a copy.
lol Have a great 4th!

My husband used to play with his sister's Barbie dolls. He would use his G.I. Joe to beat up the Ken doll. Then G.I. Joe would marry Barbie. Ahhhh, sweet childhood memories.

Ah-Ha! I knew you were a girly man. I know this because a female lawyer in NJ called me this for arranging flowers in a vase for the dinner table. But that's OK, I had two younger sisters and decapitated my share of Barbie dolls. Ditto on most of the others as well. As for, "...it's always hard to say no to the ladies", I'm assuming no double entendre was intended, and comment that they'll just get you into mucho trouble. As with methamphetamine, just learn to Say No.

If you want a good childhood reminisce. Ask Thunder about his water fountain incident. It will get you to LYAS. I am right now just picturing it. Have a good 4th and keep all your fingers, would hate to miss your Blogs.

Happy 4th of July!
You have had that novel in your head since 8th grade. I wish you would get it out in the world so we all could read it. Of course I remember the 8th grade version. You know, the real violent Alas Babylon type thriller you were writing.... Whatever you write you can at least count on me and my brother Steve to read it. I have to burn some burgers and dogs so until tomorrow, thanks for sharing.

I do remember your Barbie days, but you canceled them out by being a glock man,law man,and you have your own shooting range on your spread, shooting that massive hog in Guana provided proof your not a Barbie man.

Cathy S,

Sophie,
Tis okay, You got me back into Raptor Red which is a novel I thoroughly enjoyed.
Such a dinonerd.

ThunderD,
You know me TOO well.
:)

3C,
Lame is exactly how I feel when I work on it and then reread it.
Argghh.

Miz S,
Joe could kick Ken's butt anyday of the week.
Barbie was just too Barbilicious!

Doc,
Don't you find that difficult?
Is it just me?

BroJ,
I wiil have to hear that tale the next time he's here.

Damn Billy!
No wonder you were such a whiz in math class. You have one hell of a memory.
Damn, you're good.
You know I stood outside at Dad's burn pit and burned that 8th grade novel a year or so after I wrote it?
Idiot me.

Does my cousin Rick rock or what?
See how he defended me with all those manly things I do.
He also once refused to leave with a youth group bus when I was lost in Hollywood.
That's loyalty.
That's my cuz.
Rick, that would make a good post eh?

No, buddy, it's not just you.
I had to learn that lesson the hard way. And enlightenment comes much harder and faster in the "Big Cities" for a young, callow, single guy.

Happy 4th.
