Also basking in the road was this little turtle.
(see previous snapper post)
Look Ma!
No leeches!
This appears to be a musk turtle, aka stinkpot, but the little Chelonian never did poke his parts out for me to see.
So I'm open to ID suggestions.
This alligator wouldn't even look at me.
That's okay, because a few minutes after taking this shot, I stumbled into what might be my favorite gator shot ... ever.

Your favorite gator shot...ever... Is that the best teaser line ever?
You do find the cutest little turtles.
DAWG! Can't wait to see that shot! What Robin said!
And in case you don't get back to my comment on your comment... thanks ever so! Nutshell: tired, brain-frizzed, too many irons in the fire... that's my excuse and I'm stickin' to it. 8-}
Er... my verif. word today is stormin. Hope that's not a forecast for the weekend.
It definitely is not a Sternotherus:

Sternotherus odoratus does not have a hinged plastron.
I think you have a Kinosternon baurii. The plastron scutes are more like bauri:

than subrubrum:

To my eye, the posterior hinge scutes are more elongated in baurii than in subrubrum, as your little turtle has. The absence of dorsal stripes also indicates baurii to me.
Gosh, you are such a tease! I'm wondering what could possibly be the best of all gator pics.
Tease.
I am SO gald I stumbled upon your blog tonight! I will come back when it's not so late. lol
I have just moved to Florida and am learning as much as I can about this state and its natural habitat.
I will be back! (to see that best pic EVER!) ; )
