Quickie lunchtime post ...
I staked my vigorous tomato plants Saturday, which turned out to be pretty good timing as we had some strong windy storms Sunday.
I pulled the datils down from the "system" to protect them after I saw the radar bands on Accuweather.
The possibility of hail seemed strong and the datils are fragile and harder to replace than tomatoes.
The datils sheltered under the old hog hut while the tomatoes bravely endured the storm.
All plants came through it well, but we did get some nice rain and a short, but truly sweet little hail storm.
Below is a little bit of the hailstorm that rocked Laya's chicks' world.

Syncopation! Chickies are growing great!
It was a wicked day yesterday!!! Stupid me almost got hit with lightning trying to pull plants inside to the porch. Gah!!!!
Love being able to watch in full (youtube) screen. Thanks, fc.

oh, those chickies!
i forget about the southern hail -- especially in summer. we don't get much hail, even in winter, and are about to get very dry here for the next half-year or so.
FC,
I hate to tell you, but sweet and hailstorm DO NOT belong in the same sentence!
It gets described around here as hail the size of: bbs,peas, marbles, quarters,golf balls, baseballs or softballs. It usually turns my veggies into slaw of some kind and it hurts when you get thumped on the head trying to rescue things for the umpteenth time.
Poor wet little chicks.
ThreeC,
They really are! Soon free!
Dani,
Plants = expendable.
Dani = NOT.
Lesle,
Glad you like it. I'm right there with ya. Much, much better.
Kathy,
Hail is a fairly odd event here. That was about the best I've seen here at the house.
Caroline,
I am duly chastized! My prof from Oklahoma showed us slides of car dealerships just wiped out by hailstorms.
Oh my. Great video
Hi FC,
Great video. You should put it to music! Chicks are getting big.
P
the chicks look healthy and well-protected.
my real intro to hail was a summer in columbia SC -- also my intro to southern rainstorms. i only remember big hail once, but that was enough. i've complained some about the rain in northern california this season -- and nor cal is generally much wetter than where i grew up, in L.A. -- but it is nothing like the gully-washers that run through the south.
Poor little chickies, sort of adds some credibility to chicken little's story though: "The sky is falling!"
Those little chicks are all huddled together, scared to death! I love the rain and even a bit of hail as long as it stays small!
Those chicks are very cute, but your tomatoes plants are what caught my eye. We don't even have starts here yet. Sigh.
